Nate Gowdy: Eyewitness

April 11-June 8, 2025

Some called it insurrection while others called it a peaceful moment of love. As Nate Gowdy witnessed the gathering of crowds on January 6, 2021, his camera recorded images that move beyond typical journalism and are lifted into the realm of fine art.

Ten large-format, selenium-toned (monochromatic) images selected from the photographers book (on sale at MMAA) relive the telling moments of an artist who placed himself often in harm’s way in order to capture the ‘perfect image’.

Viewed in the sanctuary of the Museum, visitors can judge the event for themselves, as the camera’s lens and the photographer’s eye capture the action.
