Politics & Religion: Artists Speak Out!

April 11-June 8, 2025

It has been four years since MMAA has mounted a larger version of this theme.

This year the exhibition features approximately 50 works from the permanent collection fused with borrowed works from artists and collectors of the Michiana Region. Themes of social justice, immigration, religious symbolism, protest, and satire evoke voices of the past and reflect current precedents for the future.

Since the days of Paul Revere in America or Honoré Daumier in France, artists have sought to bring forth images that might rouse the masses into thought provoking states of mindfulness or even protest. Seeing these current images in historical context as in this exhibit, provides a safe and neutral space within the museum allowing time for genuine reflection for the visitor.
